Come out wherever you are, I said in a low voice, trying not to scare away any of the sheep in the vicinity. I was a little flustered by all the bustle in Vomp Hills. These parts are usually very calm, with adventurers no longer taking the time to climb the hill. It’s kind of sad since you have the view at the very top is great. You can easily look at the mountain range around Konschtat Highlands—but only on a nice day of course.

I had just shined my armor, dusting off the Koenig Shield I haven’t used in a long time. I haven’t really given my Paladin the attention it deserves lately, which leaves me with the sad feel of regret. This armor, which I used to wear with such pride, has been left hanging on my mannequin for far too long, and I hope I get to use it a lot more. My gear is maybe not as good as some of the more seasoned Paladin’s, but it’ll do. There is no doubt in my mind that I could easily fend off the attacks from the lesser gods in sky. I wish they’d let me get a Sattva, a Tamas and a Rajas ring.

It had been raining all morning, so I wasn’t at all surprised that I was the only one on the hill. The sky was still covered with heavy clouds, and I feared there would be another rain soon. It was still only noon, so anything could happen at this point. I looked around, carefully scanning the monsters strolling around up here: a few goblins patrolling and a herd of sheep. For a moment I thought that a stew would be purrrfect right now, deciding to go by the tavern in Bastok to see what today’s special were later.

Rumors has it that an old, ragged ram roam in these parts. Carnero, as some of the elderly in Bastok calls him, is said to have tormented children playing in Gustaberg for years. But, this was many years ago, and few know if the stories are actually true. I for one had decided to climb these hills, in hope of learning the truth. My step-mother, Sarah, once told me that if you investigate a folk story, you’ll usually find some truth to them regardless of how silly they may sound.

A herd of seven sheep were standing some sixty feet away from me, and I decided I’d use them to lure out Carnero—if such a monster even exist. I closed my eyes, concentrated for a brief moment before casting a bright flashing light above the herd. Flash ought to do it, I told myself. Moments later, the herd started running away, frightened by the sudden flash. I chased after them, trying not to let them get away.

The herd ran toward a path leading to the very top of the hill. Purrrfect, I thought to myself, now I can corner them with ease. My armor was heavy, but with years of training I no longer have a problem running. I remember how I almost fell over the first time I put it on. I cast another round of flash to keep them going in the direction I wanted.

We were nearly at the very top when I heard a roaring sound. A towering ram was standing at the top of the path, staring right through me. I stopped for a moment, trying to examine it further. The ram was in rage, and judging by all the cuts and bruises on it’s body I just knew that it had to be old Carnero.

The ram charged at me, hitting me with it’s sturdy horns. I barely blocked the attack with my shield, narrowly escaping a “hollow death”. I took a few steps back, staring intensely at it for a few seconds. The rest of the herd was hiding in the back, patiently waiting to see the outcome of the battle.

I pointed my sword at the old ram and said: Purrr! You’re mine! The ram started scraping one of it’s hoof against the ground. Moments later it charged against me, trying to put an end to me. Again I moved away, dodging the ram’s attack. I swung my sword as hard as I could into it’s thigh, turning around in an instant and launching an aerial attack, often referred to as a Savage Attack. The ram roared in pain as it fell to the ground, incapacitated. The ram was in great pain, but it’s life dwindled in but a few seconds.

I carefully looked through it’s remains. To my surprise I found a katana sword in purrrfect shape: the fabled “Katayama Ichimonji.” I thought something was fishie about how the ram died, but to think it had a katana in it…

It was early afternoon in Tahrongi when I arrived, having traveled north from Sarutabaruta and into the Kolshushu region. The whole canyon was covered in a thick carpet of dark clouds, and I kind of missed feeling the gentle touch of the warm sun. It isn’t raining at least, I said to myself. There was an eerie silence lingering throughout the area, and I felt kind of lonely to be honest. Sure, I had my linkshell to keep my company, but I’d much rather have someone accompany on my adventures in Tahrongi.

I walked over to a ledge, scouting the area to make sure I wouldn’t run into a grumpy goblin. Just below me there was a few bees flying busily from plant to plant, collecting nectar to make the most delicious honey. A few feet away was a lonely mandragora, walking around in an frivolous manner. I sighed, thinking how much I’d want to hug it. Mandragoras are just so cute, and it is sometimes hard to resist the temptation to just pick them up and carry them around. I have no doubt in my mind that they would make an effort to slap you senseless before you even knew what hit you.

I carefully unsheathed my katana, sneaking up on a lone bee. Once again I looked around me, making sure I wasn’t followed by any beasts. The coast was clear, so I took a deep breath while raising my katana. Hyaa~, I called out as I slashed through the bee, dealing a considerable amount of damage. The bee, startled by the surprise attack, took off into the air. I took a step forward and thrust my katana forward, hoping to pierce the bee’s hard cover, but missed completely. The bee took a turn and came directly toward me, raising it’s sting and thereby preparing to injure me.

I narrowly escaped it’s sharp sting, hitting it with all my might to push it away from me. A Critical Hit! The bee took another turn, flying around me instead of away from me this time. With three steps backwards, I was able to distance myself from it enough to anticipate it’s next attack. The bee flew towards me, preparing a final sting. I clutched my hands around the grip on my katana, took a step slightly to the left while I rotated my body to increase the power and speed of my attack, cutting right through the bee. The bee dropped to the ground, flapping it’s insect wings a last time before it passed into the next world.

I looked around carefully, making sure I wouldn’t be spotted by a nearby group of Yagudos. I had been caught by surprise by a Scribe and an Initiate earlier in the evening, and I was sure the others would be looking for them by now. A group of feather~faces wouldn’t normally be much of a hassle, but things could easily get ugly in my current state.

I groaned in pain as I cleaned a wound on my arm, pouring some distilled water mixed with some herbs over it afterwards to cool it down. Stained blood was covering the whole sleeve, and I was a bit sad that since it was one of my favorite shirts too. I’m sure my Moogle could clean it, but right now I was more worried about my own well-being than the shirt. I carefully looked through my pouch, hoping I had a flask of antidote left. Guess I should stock up soon. Only two left, I said to myself while I unscrewed the cork on the antidote and drank it. I also applied some pressure to my arm using some linen I had tucked away in my satchel.

It was early morning by now, and the first few birds had started chirping. Apart from a few clouds lingering on the horizon in the north-west, just over Tahrongi Canyon, the sky was pretty much clear. I enjoyed the clear morning air, full of moisture from the Pamtam Straits.

The pain slowly faded away, and I was relieved that the antidote I took was able to cure the poison. I got up on my feet and started to sneak behind a nearby tree. A goblin was patrolling the path, mumbling something to itself. Their high pitched voices make it hard not to laugh when you hear them, but I suppose that’s rather rude. I somehow feel very sorry for the mandragoras when I hear their squeal as they fall to the ground unconscious.

Stop!
I turned around, surprised by the sudden call. A goblin had snuck up on me from behind, and was charging toward me. I unsheathed my katana and prepared to battle. My arm was feeling a little better, but I wasn’t completely rested still. But a beast couldn’t care less about such details. It thrust it’s rusty dagger toward me with a grin on it’s face. Or, I thought it saw a grin through it’s mask.

Oh, no you don’t, I said, parrying the goblin’s attack with my katana, at the same time pushing him away with my foot. I took a step forward, before I launched a powerful attack toward it’s side. The goblin screamed in pain as I struck it. It quickly stepped to the side, trying to sneak in an attack from below, but I could easily anticipate the attack.

I made another powerful swing with my katana, but missed the evading goblin completely. It laughed cheerfully through it’s mask, celebrating my miss. Oh, keep quiet you, I hissed at it. You can not attack me. Finally, the Goblin victory, it said again in their usual quirky way.

The goblin suddenly took three steps backwards, picked up a goblin bomb and tossed it toward me before ducking to cover itself. I meowed in panic as I tried to jump away from the bomb. I barely missed the blast, but I could feel burnt hair from my tail. I hissed at the goblin again, but instead of charging at him, I stood completely still. I closed my eyes and concentrated.

Trick? I’ll go and attack the cat, the goblin said before charging toward me. I slowly raised my katana, waiting for the right moment. Now, I told myself. I just knew when to launch my attack. I struck the goblin twice in fast succession, using an attack I recently learned. Tachi: Enpi, although not very advanced, still does a fair bit of damage. Strong cat. I have no chance, the goblin groaned, falling toward the ground.

I meowed frantically in dismay, as Kirin came tramping towards me. But even if I ran as quickly as I could, I just couldn’t put a distance between me and the enormous monster, claiming to be the king among gods. The air was damp, filled with memories of past battles. I looked around, desperate to find shelter from the monster chasing me. We’re coming, I could hear in the background; my friends assuring me they’d help me out of harms way. But right then and there, their words didn’t reach my mind. I was panicking, praying to Goddess Altana that she would spare me just this once.

I looked back, trying to judge the distance between me and Kirin. At this rate he’d reach me in only seconds. Turning back was a fatal mistake though, as I quickly realized that I had run into a corner. I meowed, crouched down and started shivering. I closed my eyes, trying to cover my face with my hands. Tears started rolling down the sides of my face, and my whole body felt numb. The loud, tramping steps came to a halt, and I could sense tremendous creature stand just a few feet away from me.

Run like there’s a 50% off sale, someone suddenly shouted. I slowly opened one of my eyes, peeking to see what was going on. Kirin had stopped moving, and seemed to be casting a powerful spell. My body wouldn’t move, still terrorized by what had just happened. Kirin’s spell was interrupted, as my party had run out of range long ago. The notorious monster roared in anger, making me crouch down even tighter.

I could hear steps of someone or something approaching me slowly. A hand, gently resting on my head. Are you okay? a friendly voice asked. I opened my eyes again, slowly. It was Nicia, smiling gently at me. Aww, what did that big mean creature do to you, she continued, looking through her pocket with her right hand. She pulled out a handkerchief, carefully wiping the tears off my face. It’s all right now, kitten. It’s gone now, she reassured. Even in my most desperate hour, a kind soul reached out a hand to help me.

Nicia helped me get back up on my feet, petting me on my head. I purrred faintly, mostly because I was nervous though. Meow! My tanks, I stuttered! I suddenly realized that I had left the tanks to fend for themselves while I had been feared for my life alone. I bowed courteously to Nicia, thanking her for looking after me.

After slaying the enormous monster, our linkshell sat down to rest. It hadn’t been a particularly hard battle, but it had certainly put a dent in my pride. Everyone was sitting in a big ring, having something to eat. I have an announcement to make, Ravenclaw suddenly said, standing up. Ravenclaw looked around, playing a few tones on his harp before continuing. Everyone was looking curiously at him, hoping he wouldn’t start asking popsicle jokes.

Ravenclaw cleared his throat, before cheerfully telling the linkshell that I have been promoted to pearlsack. Everyone shifted their attention to me, staring at me in disbelief. Oh god no, I could hear someone say jokingly. Everyone started clapping their hands, congratulating me. I blushed, and tried to hide my face. But deep down I felt really happy!

Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary.
- Margaret Cousins

I want every day to be a new adventure, and every person to be a new friend. When I set out from my home on Elshimo Island to become an adventurer, I vowed to myself that I wanted people to like me, and that I would make lots and lots of new friends.

Lately I’ve been thinking about showing people your appreciation, and taking the time to show them that you value their efforts. I wrote an entry about encouraging people a few years ago, and it’s never been a better time to start to be honest.

My favorite job has always been White Mage. White Mages have the pleasure of teleporting people when they need to get somewhere, tend the wounds of weary adventurers and raise the unfortunate ones. Some have become my close friends, and some have helped me in countless ways. I’m eternally grateful for the things they have done.

Showing people your appreciation is easy. A simple thank you is all it takes. Yet no one really takes the time to thank others for their hard work. Some, especially those in the east, show their appreciation for even the little things, like getting a teleport. You are an awesome Red Mage, thank you for keeping me refreshed! Just a simple line like that is enough to put a smile on someone’s face. Sure, it may be “their job” to keep you refreshed, but show them that you appreciate them helping you.

Take a moment to think about how someone you know have helped you. Maybe they gave you a valuable item once, or just cast Silena on your for the 108th time. Thank them for being a good friend. I’m not saying you should send them 108 tells, thanking them for casting Silena on them though.

Imagine how encouraged people would be if you took the time to thank two or three people every day.

The sky was filled with ominous dark clouds, not that I the least worried. A gentle wind was brushing through my hair, and I felt really relaxed, listening to the seagulls squawking in the distance. The sea was calm, and the small waves hitting against the bow of the ferry taking me to Nashmau.

As I stood here, enjoying the salty air and serenity of it all, I kept thinking of the long journey I’ve been through. Oh, you thought I was obsessed with all the fishies below, didn’t you? They didn’t even cross my mind. After the incident with Ulbrecht just a few weeks ago, it’s been pretty crazy around here. I’ve been working hard as a student, trying to become a better mage. My approach to Scholar is very similar to White Mage, with minor differences. I’ve been amazed so many times by how well a Scholar can retain her mana, even without a refresher or secondary healer. It’s fun, yet very demanding.

I’ve met so many wonderful people on my journey to become a level 75 Scholar, and I’ve learned so much. Some of the people I met have even become close friends of mine; and of course there are those I would rather forget as quickly as possible. You meet all sorts of people out there: the gentle, the carefree, the obnoxious and the know-it-alls. But I wouldn’t have been able to attain my level without the continuous help and support of my friends and allies.

But just because I’ve reached level 75 doesn’t mean my journey is over. Far from it! Today marks the beginning of a new journey to become better at the jobs I already have. I’m too burned out right now to even think about getting another job, so right now I’m going to give it my all.

My motto: Be kind, diligent, playful and adventurous.

I’m sometimes appalled by how unprepared some people are, whether it is for a linkshell event or an experience party. Making preparations is the key to any successful journey, yet few people take the extra time to go over their inventory before leaving their mog house.

When you show your interested in partying, you should be ready to go. Some people spend nearly twenty minutes finding gear stored in some goddess-forsaken place. Here is a few things you should prepare before leaving:

Subjob
The first thing you should check is your subjob. Are you a tank with a Black Mage as support job? Is that even remotely useful among the people you will be going with? Really now, having access to Warp beats Provoke any day?

Equipment
Have you checked and double checked that you have all the necessary gear with you? Sometimes I wander off without a few pieces I only macro in, but they can make a big difference!

Also, don’t underestimate the power of your weapon. Some monsters are naturally resistant to certain kinds of weapons. Swinging a club at a Robber Crab may not be the brightest of ideas. Weapon compatibility can make a huge difference in how long it takes to take down a monster.

Supplies
Make sure you’ve got all the ninjutsu you need for at least two or three parties worth. You’ll look like a fool if you run out of Shihei or ammo for your weapon just fifteen minutes into partying. With the recent adoption of the Mog Satchel, it is a good idea to stock up between each party.

All mages and jobs that require the use of any kind of spells should carry a stack of Echo Drops on them. There are no excuses for being lazy about this, and don’t make any excuses about not having the gil. Farm some honey and go see your local alchemist!

Also, what’s the deal? Why did you just come to the middle of nowhere with no oils or prisms to help you get safely to your destination? Oh, now you are crying it’s the mages’ job to get you there? Think again! We’ll give you the first sneak for free, but after that you should expect to be on your own.

Bring your food!
Mmmm.. delicious fishies! I love my fishies more than the average mithra. Don’t leave your home without packing your bento box, okay? Bring the appropriate food for your particular camp and job. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt when up against Colibris — those birds are vicious if fed!

Signet / Sanction / Sigil
Don’t wander off without seeing your local gate guard first! The signets can make a world of difference on the battlefield.

Reraise Items
Bring reraise items if your linkshell event requires this of you. Remember that certain fights leave you with limited time, and mages won’t have the time or the mana to spare to cast Raise on you.

Warp Items
Sometimes it can be a lo~ng way home. Don’t forget your Warp Cudgel or Instant Warp scroll.

And above all, be ready! Don’t leave your party waiting because you are tardy or have to run off doing some other errands.

The ground shook violently as several rounds of mortar shells hit the ground seemingly feet away. The shockwave from the explosions caused bricks crack and fragments fall from the roof. An elderly woman fell to the ground, unable to get back up again. People were making their way further into the Eldieme Necropolis, trying desperately to get into safety.

The battle between the Allied Forces and the beastmen had reached a peek in the past few days, and it was no longer safe to wander around in Batallia Downs. People from far and near had come here to take shelter from the beastmen attacks, but many hundred lives had been lost on the journey to get here. The allied forces had suffered numerous losses on the battlefield as well, and the shortage of troops was alarming at best.

I was exhausted and could no longer remember how long it had been since my last decent meal. I hadn’t slept for two or three days, but my will to continue helping these people never wavered. There were many wounded people inside, but me and the other healers had already tended to most of them. «There you go,» I said to a little boy, smiling as I sent him back to his parents. It’s just a light sprain, but it should heal in just a few days, I explained to his parents. Goddess bless you, adventurer. I bowed respectfully before the group of people before I walked toward the inner parts of the catacombs.

So tired, I thought to myself as I walked down the long hallways. The whole place was in a bad shape, but it was the safest place short of Jeuno at the time. The gates to Jeuno had been barricaded and all entries to the city long since restricted, leaving thousands of people to fend for themselves. People in these parts were bitter about the decision to close the gates, and some were not afraid to share their anger.

I found Erlene at one of the junctions leading further into the catacombs. I waved to her as I walked toward her. Nyaa~, I said to her. She looked at me for a few moments, smiling. Thank you for your hard work today, Kimiko, she said. I nodded to her, trying to wipe a yawn off my face. I was beyond tired to say the least, but I knew she had been working day and night for weeks, getting little sleep. I was in no position to complain around her.

Erlene looked at me, worried. Do you have a moment, she asked me. I nodded again. It may be unwise to speak here. Come, follow me, she continued, showing me the way to a more secluded area. We entered a huge hall, filled with flowers in memory of those who had succumbed to this pointless war.

Perhaps you have heard, but the educated and wise mages of the Allied Forces have been disappearing as of late, she explained. I asked her if they could’ve fallen victim to a beastmen attack on the battlefield, but she shook her head. In many cases it is happening right at our very own bases and encampments, she continued. I was startled by her answer, and worried about my fellow mages’ well being. She explained how this wasn’t isolated incidents and that all three nations had begun to investigate the matter further—with no result so far. I would like to ask you, Kimiko, to assist our colleagues in the investigation. I fear that it may be a somewhat dangerous task, so I will understand if you refuse, she continued. I told her I’d be happy to help, asking her where the meeting between the scholars participating in the investigation was scheduled.

<<<<<>>>>>

It was early morning by the time I made it to the beautiful city of San d’Oria. My feet ached as I walked across the street paved with stone setts. I much prefer the feel of a meadow or the soft ground found in say Windurst or Kazham.

As I reached the plaza I was greeted by a group of Scholars standing by one of the food stalls. Hello there, ummm…new…pupil, Ulbrecht said, waving to me. I sighed, feeling like a total idiot. Machudiaux, an elvaan scholar standing in the back, fumed at his colleague. I do say, Ulbrecht, the least you could do is attempt to remember some of the new pupils’ names. The tarutaru scholar, standing on top of a crate, didn’t seem surprised at all. Oh, he’s just doing it on purpose. I believe he enjoys coming across a bit aloof.

I didn’t really know what to make of the situation, but listened carefully to the scholars discussing the situation. They were worried that one of their friends, Fhen, may have fallen victim to the beastmen’s attacks as well. Ulbrecht tried to calm them down, explaining how she was the professor’s best student. I would gladly put my gil on her, should any beastman be foolish enough to cross her path. Everyone nodded their head, agreeing that it was hard to believe that something ill could happen to her. So, what do you propose we do, Machudiaux asked. Ulbrecht looked at everyone, thinking for a moment. The main roads between Windurst and here should be scoured with a fine-toothed comb, he explained, telling us that would be the best place to start.

The meeting ended with everyone going their separate ways, searching an area each in hopes of finding their lost colleague. I thought it would be best to talk with Erlene about the meeting, so I asked a representative of the Allied Forces to teleport me to Eldieme.

<<<<<>>>>>

The sun was setting in the distance, and it was already beginning to get a little chilly outside. A faint breeze swept through the Sauromugue countryside. I really enjoyed the fresh air as I had become all too familiar with the stale air inside Eldieme. A simple thing like fresh air can put a smile on my face, and the calm I felt made me purrr. I was still really tired, but I tried not to pay any attention to it.

Dozing off, are we? Ulbrecht said, welcoming me. The scholars I had met in San d’Oria earlier had already gathered together, only short of Machudiaux. Ulbrecht explained that he was simply making sweeping the area and would be back shortly.

Machudiaux explained that the soldiers watching the area had found Fhen’s tracks up until she arrived in Sauromugue. We’ve taken into account all possible routes from Windurst. And checked every questionable area along the way. And still we found nothing, he explained. In all likelihood, she was somewhere here in the champaign when she went missing.

Ulbrecht asked everyone to begin searching for their feline colleague. I expressed my concern with everyone searching individually and proposed that we search together. Ulbrecht shook his head and told me it would be far more efficient to split up and commence the search for Fhen.

A little worried about my own well being, I started searching for Fhen. I searched high and low, trying to stay clear of the beastmen forces in the area. I prayed that she would be safe and sound, but I had an eerie feeling that something bad was happening. These parts are dangerous even for the most experienced adventurer, so I hoped that her confidence hadn’t gotten the best of her.

Suddenly, as I was running up a little hill, I felt a weird sensation. I looked around me, trying to find the cause of the disturbing feeling. I walked over to some suspicious rubble. A faint light was shimmering from the ground, and I could feel it make my whiskers tingle. What’s this, I asked myself, examining the light further.

The light suddenly expanded, growing bigger and bigger. I was stuck, unable to move even the slightest. I panicked and quickly tried to cast a teleportation spell. Suddenly everything went black…

<<<<<>>>>>

When I came to again, I found myself in a dark cavern. I looked around, but the place looked unfamiliar to me. What happened, I thought to myself. I couldn’t see any exits, and I was too weak to attempt to cast another teleportation spell.

… Kimiko. I should have expected as much. It was Ulbrecht’s voice. I gasped in horror as I saw Ulbrecht standing over Machudiaux’s body. Well, despite your record of punctuality, it would seem this time you are a tad late. I hissed at him, expressing my rage over his actions. Allow me to bid you welcome to Ghoyu’s Reverie. Final destination of all those missing magi that you so relentlessly seek.

Suddenly Ulbrecht turns toward me and casts a binding spell unlike any I have experienced before. And while I’m at it… I suppose you would make a fine addition to that select group! He walked toward me, but I was unable to move. My body was terrorized, unwilling to move. I’m not really sure what happened after that as the rest of what happened is still a big blur. I found myself outside again, unharmed but shaken by what had happened.

I quickly made my way to Erlene who was still in Eldieme. What is it, Kimiko? Your expression does not bode well, she asked me, worried sick. I explained to her what had transpired, and she was appalled by my findings. But that cannot be! All the pupils, she cried out. I showed her Ulbrecht’s hat which was lying beside me when I came to again. What has that fool gone and done now, she asked, disturbed by the mere thought.

Torches, burning with lively flames, provided faint light to the hallway down to the catacombs of Eldieme Necropolis. The air felt musty, almost unbearable to breathe. These ancient burial grounds have now become shelter to the thousands of people seeking refugee from the ongoing war outside. I could hear the sound of swords clashing in the distance, reverberating through the long hallways, echoing the horror of yet another attack by the beastmen.

There were refugees everywhere, desperately holding together, hoping to live another day. A little girl reached her hand out to me, her hands covered with dirt. Nee… need food, she stuttered, weakened after having eaten nothing in several days. I stopped walking, crouching down to have a look at the girl. She looked completely worn out, and was in need of immediate medical attention. The people sitting around her looked tired, worried sick about their lost ones.

I closed my eyes, trying to forget how exhausted I was myself. I tried not to pay attention to the people murmuring around me. I put my hand on the little girl’s forehead, whispering Don’t cry, little girl, everything will be just fine. A brilliant light surrounded us, as I treated her wounds and healed her fatigue. The people sitting nearby drew closer, paying close attention to me helping the little girl. Goddess! Thank you, thank you! someone said, holding both his hands toward the ceiling. He looked relieved that someone had finally come to help them. I treated the other refugees as best I could, ever more gratified to help the ones in need. I’m sorry, this is all that I can do for now, I told them, finally resting my hand after having treated some thirty refugees. I stood up, ready to walk further into the catacombs. I looked at the desperate faces of the men and women in the hallway, feeling guilty that I couldn’t do more.

Move away, a brisk and dismissive voice suddenly said. A dark knight trying to steer through the crowd. Coming through, he muttered, annoyed that people were standing in his way. Fo… food! Need f…, someone in the crowd begged. The elvaan dark knight turned around and snarled at the old lady, before walking away. Some of the children in the group started crying, frightened by the angry elvaan.

I was appalled by how the elvaan had just treated these people in need, and wanted to walk over to him and give him a piece of my mind. I realized that causing a scene would undoubtedly just make things worse and scare the crowd even further, so I decided not to give the elvaan a swift smack to the head. I crouched down again, and started looking through my bag. I found some bread that I had bought earlier, and some of the fish that I had gotten in the Knightwell in Ronfaure just this morning. The crowd quickly gathered around me as I shared the food among them, telling them that everything would be alright, and that Altana would surely reach out to help them. Knowing the sad state of the military forces across Vana’diel, I knew chances were there wouldn’t be anyone to help these poor souls for at least a few months.

I prayed for Altana’s blessing of these people, and bid them farewell as I walked further into the catacombs. I was worried about the refugees, but one person can only do so much. I had even given away my own rations, so I hoped I’d be able to find something to eat. Some of Chicora’s pineapple cookies would’ve been just purrrfect, I thought to myself.

As I walked down a few stairs, I noticed Erlene standing at a junction. She was wearing a beautiful Scholar gown, and looked so smart with those glasses on. I wish I had a purrrdy gown like that, I thought to myself, a little jealous of Erlene. She was tending the wounds of another group of refugees, so I crouched down beside her and helped her out. Thank you, ma’am, she smiled, continuing to heal the wounds of a young boy. She peeked at me, and asked you are Kimiko, aren’t you? I nodded, telling her I had spoken with her a few months before. How are you finding the grimoire, she asked, eager to know of my recent adventures and my progress as a Scholar. I told her that I had spent a great deal of time, studying the ancient magical tome, and that I had been progressing quite well.

Erlene stood up, examining me thoroughly. I would expect nothing less from a student of the Schultz School of Martial Theory, she said, wishing that the professor himself was here to witness my progress. I tried to hide a blush, making Erlene giggle. Erlene’s face suddenly became very serious, and I could see that she was worried. Kimiko, might I impose a request upon you? she asked. I nodded, telling her I’d be happy to help her. I’m afraid my duties bind me here. Would you be willing to seek out the professor in my place?

A young man walked into the room, also wearing the formal attire of a Scholar. Oh? So you’re off to locate the good professor, are you? the young man asked me. It was Ulbrecht. I nodded to him, telling him I’d do my very best to reveal his whereabouts. Ulbrecht looked through his pocket before reaching his hand toward me, presenting a letter. Please, should you happen to find him, pass this along with my regards, will you? I accepted his request, and put the envelope in my bag.

Ulbrecht left the room just as sudden as he had entered. Erlene, worried sick about the professor’s well-being, was a little frustrated by Ulbrecht making delivery requests, oblivious to the professor being missing again. I comforted her, telling her not to worry about the professor.

Tracking down the professor was no easy feat, and my journey to find the good professor brought me to Bastok. I hoped that someone there would know of his whereabouts. It was already late in the evening, and I was beginning to doubt that I would find anyone able to help me. I was walking toward the residential area, as I met Nicolaus, a former student of the professor.

The young man, now working with the Mythril Musketeers, looked intelligent and reliable, so I hoped that he would be able to help me. I wonder why he quit, I thought to myself as I explained to him that the professor had gone missing again and that Erlene is worried sick. He explained that he believed that the professor is in Pashhow Marshlands, concealing himself using a type of magic called a storm. I asked Nicolaus how I would be able to find him if he was concealing himself from prying eyes, to which he could offer no helpful information.

It was already late, so I decided I’d get some sleep before making my way to the marshlands. If the professor was indeed just hiding, I thought that it would be safe to get some much needed rest. Healing all the refugees earlier had taken it’s toll on me, and I needed to rest and get a decent meal before I could go anywhere.

<<<<<>>>>>

The sun was shining brilliantly in the sky, partly obscured by clouds. It was raining lightly, but I did not mind as it felt really refreshing. I was riding on a chocobo, heading west toward the Vunkerl Inlet, hoping I’d find clues as to where the professor is hiding. Monsters of all shapes and sizes were roaming in the marsh. Fortunately, there was no need for concern as the monsters paid no attention to my chocobo—or me for that matter.

It was nearly noon before I finally found the first clue, some Indescript Markings. I could feel an unpleasant aura as I walked toward it, reaching down to touch it. Just as I thought, this is it, I whispered to myself as I examined the markings. It is certainly not the most ideal of conditions, a voice suddenly said. I looked around, trying to locate the professor. I knew he was there, but I could not see nor sense him. I have aligned it such that it is invisible to prying eyes, he continued. I panicked, not knowing what to do. And that’s the way I’d like to keep it for now, the voice said. Suddenly, the professor appeared out of nowhere.

A small river flowed gently by me, glittering in the morning sun. The gardens of Ru’Aun was filled with tranquility, and I felt an inner peace as I walked down the ancient grounds of the Zilartians. Mighty guardians were lined up on each side of me, surrounded by a radiant blue light. The living statues seemed inactive, but I knew deep down they’d wake up if their limited motion detector were to go off. A few birds were flying cheerfully by, chirping to their hearts’ content. I smiled, thinking how they’d make a delightful dinner.

I had read an interesting article a few days earlier that peeked my curiosity. The author, Kimiko <del>the tarutaru</del>, explained how she had fought against the living statues, the Groundkeepers, and gotten some decent experience. I decided I’d give the dolls a spin, hoping they’d help me become a better Black Mage.

A Field Manual at the entrance listed eleven dolls as a viable training regiment, which was purrrfect as completing such a regiment would net me a nice bonus.

I felt really nervous as I walked toward the first groundkeeper. The enormous doll was completely oblivious to my presence and just continued to patrol. I looked around, making sure there were no other creatures nearby. Uh.. here goes… I guess, I said to myself as I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I concentrated as hard as I could, beginning to mold my mana into an enfeebling spell. A dark emptiness engulfed the doll, slowing it’s movement like magical glue.

I opened my eyes, looking at the groundkeeper. It chased after me, and I could hear a faint hum from inside it’s heavy armor. Intruder alert, the doll said, moving seemingly untouched by spell I had just cast on it. Aww, rats! I meowed in dismay, running away from the armored doll.

Once at a distance I cast a quick Stun to stop it from moving temporarily. I closed my eyes again and concentrated even harder, casting a binding spell this time. The spell once again failed to take effect, and I was starting to get quite nervous about this camp. I was at a loss, and decided to sleep the monster with a powerful soporific spell I had once learned. The doll stopped moving, standing completely still. Finally, I thought to myself. I deliberated on what to do for a few moments, deciding to take a different approach when casting my spells. With some minor adjustments to my chants, I was hoping I would be able successfully land the enfeebling spells.

Using an elemental seal, I cast a new gravitation field at it, using an ancient black spell. The spell finally went unresisted, and I knew I was safe. I closed my eyes again, concentrating on borrowing some of mother nature’s powers. My body was tingling, and around me I could feel the air become filled with small sparks of lightning. I kept concentrating, making sure the impact would be as big as possible. Suddenly a brilliant burst of lightning shot down on the groundkeeper, piercing through it. The doll roared, enraged by the attack. It walked toward me, in sluggish pace as the gravity field weighed it down.

I put some distance between the groundkeeper and myself, and started concentrating again. The enormous doll’s footsteps became louder and louder, and I sensed that it was but a mere seconds away from reaching me. The air around me became cold, almost bone-chilling. A hundred shards of crystal-like ice-taps shot through the groundkeeper, damaging it’s internal systems. By now I had managed to get it down just below half capacity. The damage from my freezing attack woke the doll back to life, and once again it began to chase after me.

With two rounds of tier IV spells I finally knocked it out, just like Kimi~taru said. I was a little proud of myself, having soloed a doll of my own for the very first time.

In the future I hope I can expand my knowledge of the black magic and become a better Black Mage. Hopefully the linkshell will take notice once I build a bit more experience, so I’m hoping for the best.

My friends mean the world to me, I am blessed to have so many of them. I am really grateful for their friendship, their love and their support. When I have a rough day, someone will notice and try to comfort me. When I doubt myself, someone is there to cheer me up.

You see, my friends’ opinions mean a great deal to me. I have, from the very beginning, wanted people to like me and cherish the time they’ve spent with me. I want to leave nothing but a good impression with them, and have them become my friends.

A friend of mine said something that really hurt my feelings the other day. So much, in fact, that I began to question if I’m at all competent enough to write this diary. If I’m remotely adequate to make a book for my friends. I’ve never been very confident in my writing, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise how much it hurts when a friend makes you feel that what you are doing isn’t good enough.

I know my spelling is off, my sentences could use a lot of work and my vocabulary is rotten. Comments like that, even if they are meant to help, hurts me and makes me even more insecure about my writing.

In the end I was so hurt—so upset—that I couldn’t bring myself to do a KS99 run with my linkshell.

After a long day of adventurers in the wild, there is no place like home sweet home. All your weary body longs for is a hot bath and a good nights sleep. And as you walk in the door, you know for certain that your Moogle is waiting on you.

Moogle, or at least mine, is a very caring soul, always worrying about me while I’m outside serving the Star Sibyl. As I wake up each morning, Moogle has already brought in my morning fish and a copy of the two Windurstian newspapers, the Tarutaru Times Online and the Magic Paradise.

In a recent issue of Tarutaru Times I found a fascinating article about decorating your house. My moogle house has been pretty much the same way for several years now, and I would like to make it a bit more cozy. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like my moogle house is a mess like some people’s house is, it’s actually a quite nice room. I would really like to add some more light and an assortment of freshly picked flowers.

I will be spending the next week or so redesigning my moogle house, growing flowers and getting another aquarium—I promise I won’t eat the fishies in them!

When my friend Ravenclaw learned that I’m redesigning my moogle house, he sent me an invitation to come to his residence in San d’Oria. I thought it would be nice to see how he had decorated his house and hurried over there. As I walked up to the residential area, he was standing in the street, waving to me. Hello neko~chan, he yelled out so I would find him. The streets were full of people, and some of the younger ones laughed at the man who just suddenly cried out. I walked up to Ravenclaw and greeted him. This way, kitten, he said, showing me the way through the residential area.

As we walked in, his moogle greeted me by bowing to me. Welcome, kupo! he said. I looked around, the house, and were completely enticed by the many flowers he had standing on along one of the walls. So purrrdy~, I said. My eyes were dilated, delighted by the fresh flowers he had. Now now, kitten, don’t get all lost in thought, Ravenclaw said, showing me around the room.

His house had a tropical feel to it, and his room seemed clean and spacious, displaying some of the many gifts he had picked up during a few events. I cheered, as I picked up a lot of ideas of how to decorate my own house.

In the end I decided that I want a cozy home, tucked away in the residential area of Windurst. Filled with lights and fresh flowers, it would have the purrrfect atmosphere! So stay tuned!

Night had fallen over the lands of Zepwell Island, and a dry wind swept over the dunes. A recent sandstorm had whirled up the sand, making a thing layer much like that of new snow. It was hard moving around on my own, so I decided to rent a chocobo.

Eulaclaire, the chocobo renter, had a hard time breathing because of all the dust, and was coughing repeatedly. Try drinking this, I told her, handing her a bottle of freshly made Melon Juice. The girl’s face lit up with joy and astonishment, surprised by the random kindness of a stranger. Than… thank you, kind madam, Eulaclaire said, showing her appreciation by telling me I would get the next ride for free. I shook my head at the girl, telling her that I couldn’t possibly accept such a gift. At least let me lend you my finest chocobo, she said, eagerly trying to return my kindness.

The chocobos found on Zepwell are specially trained to traverse the dunes, no matter how difficult the weather is. The chocobo had golden feathers, and was cheer joy to ride with. Some chocobos have a mind of their own and are easily scared, but even the terrifying manticores didn’t bother this bird the least. Running in the sand seemed effortless to the chocobo, having sturdy yet nimble legs.

A lush oasis appeared before our eyes as we climbed one of the many sandbanks in the dune. I were getting quite thirsty myself, as the temperature in these parts of Vana’diel is intense to say the least. I found myself sweating, even though it was only night. I could only imagine how hot it would get during day.

My party, which was waiting for my by the outpost, spoke a language I’m not at all familiar with. Using a magical auto-translator, developed by the moogles some hundred years ago, we laid out the battle plan. It’s quirky at best, but I suppose it gets the job done. And although we didn’t speak a whole lot to each other, the party worked out quite well. The experience wasn’t all that good, but at least we got some bonuses from partaking in various training regimes using Fields of Valor.

We concentrated our efforts around fighting the goblins that had set up their camps around the oasis as well. Every now and then the Bard brought a Manticore, a fearsome monster that could very well knock someone senseless with a single attack. We did quite well, but I think some of people I were partying with overestimated me as the Bard didn’t sing any ballads for me at first. Sure, I have Sublimation, but that will only get you so far in an area where monsters dish out so-called, Area of Effect attacks.

Watch out, the tank suddenly yelled, having no means to stop the goblin from chasing after me. Oh rats, I said, watching in horror as the goblin swung it’s blade at me. Everything suddenly went pitch black, and that’s all I can remember.

You okay? a friendly tarutaru asked. I sat up, and my throat was really dry. What happened? I asked. You got beataru by a goblin, he answered. I looked confused, as I had no recollection of what had just transpired. The party~warty dragged you here, he comforted, that was some fancy moves, but you better~wetter be more careful.

I suppose using Accession and a high level regen spell—or even a cure for that matter—is a bad, bad idea. At least till I can stack up some more enmity- gear.

Waves the height of a dhalmel came in from the Shu’Meyo sea, crashing against the rocky cliffs of Qufim island. It was nighttime and adventurers had taken shelter by the tower of Delkfutt, hiding from the undead roaming the area. A bolt shot down from the sky, making a thundering roar throughout the island. Lightning-storms aren’t uncommon in these parts, and I was worried I’d get struck myself.

The only thing that scares me more than rats are lightning-storms. Just the thought of thunder gives me goosebumps! Aww, why does it have to thunder when I’m here, I said to myself, crouching down in fear every time I heard the rumble of a thunder. Gah! I should’ve waited till tomorrow, I said, pitying myself.

Are you alright, madam, a voice asked. I looked up, seeing a tarutaru reaching his hand toward me. Bam! Another bolt of lightning hit the ground in the distance. Excuse me, the tarutaru said. I opened my eyes, looking around me nervously. Would you please let go of me, he said, getting impatient. I suddenly realized I was squeezing him with my arms. I blushed as I let go of him, bowing and telling him how sorry I was. Afraid of the thunder, are you? he grinned.

The tarutaru, a Beastmaster, was leveling in the area it seemed. I must have been to worried about the thunder to notice other people in the vicinity. At his side was a giant crab, a Courier Carrie, famous for it’s reliable nature in the trading business. It had numerous nails in it’s carapace and some jars stuck on top of it.

I’m so sorry, kind Sir, I told him, apologizing for holding on to him when I panicked. It’s fine, he said, and my name is Dartvalince, not Sir.

It turns out Dartvalince is also writing a diary, and I although I may have given him a bad first impression, I hope I get to meet him again! It’s always nice to meet new friends.

A distant roar thundered through the Terrigan headland. The animals around me got frightened and bewildered by the distant sound. I crouched down to pet a beach bunny that seemed terrified. There there, it’s nothing to worry about, I comforted it. But deep down I knew that the roar was something to be concerned about. I smiled warmly to the little rabbit, giving it a little carrot that I had in my bag. Oh well, guess I’ll just have to find something else to eat then, I told myself as I got back on my feet and made my way through the sandy terrain.

The sun was shining brightly in the sky, and small animals of all shapes and sizes were out in the open. The air was salty, and there was a gentle breeze blowing in from the vast ocean. The sand felt warm as I made my way toward the area where the sound originated from, and the scenery filled my heart with joy.

A new roar reverberated through Terrigan, this time much louder. I must be getting closer to source, I thought to myself, running as fast as I could. Help! My linkshell woke to life, as Greever cried out for help. Him and Yasko were battling an enormous tortoise, the Adamantoise, but were in bad shape. I’m almost there, I informed the linkshell, just hold on! A few others were also on the way, and I ran as fast as I could, entering a tunnel guarded by a group of manticores.

Our group made it just in time to save the two weary warriors. Sparroweye, wielding a mighty sword and a sturdy shield, provoked the giant turtle. The monsters attacks didn’t do much damage to Sparroweye, so our Thief, Stiffler, could concentrate on taking care of any undesired agro from nearby monsters.

The tortoise had a tough shell protecting it, and the damage dealers had to use all their might to put a dent in it’s massive carapace. The shell itself is as tough as adaman metal, and is much sought after by craftsmen all over the world. Monks are especially interested in it’s egg as it is used to prove their worth to receive their Black Belt.

A loud clank rolled through the cavernous tunnels. There was a spark of light as mighty swords struck the soft, protective shell of a Worker Crawler. The yellow and black vermin fought back aggressively, swinging it’s large head at us. The antennas on it’s front head acted like a whip with spikes, causing extra damage as it thumped it’s head against us.

Our feline tank hold up well against the crawler, occasionally blocking it’s steady attacks. The crawler suddenly turned around, facing Yasko, a linkshell friend of mine. It closed it’s mouth for a gobbling on something while staring angrily at Yasko. Look out, I cried out, but my warning came too late. The crawler spewed a silk like substance toward Yasko, hitting a tarutaru damage dealer standing behind her. Eww, she cried disgusted. The silk was slowing their attacks down, and I felt sorry for them. I could only imagine how it must feel to be covered in something icky like that. I closed my eyes, trying to cast a spell to remedy the silk. I started molding my mana into a curative spell to completely remove the detrimental effect, but the spell failed completely. I’m sorry, I just can’t cast Erase at this level, I told my party, saddened by the limitations put forth by Level Sync.

Eat this, our tank hissed at the crawler, grabbing its attention. She lashed the crawler into the ground with her sword, provoking the monster even further. The crawler got back up at it’s tentacle-like feet, hitting the tank with a big swooping motion. Our feline friend bashed her shield into the crawler, stunning it for a moment. The crawler looked worn out, and it’s attacks had slowed down considerably. This ought to do it, Yasko said, launching a powerful combo on the crawler. The crawler fell over, whimpering in pain. The party cheered, having defeated the crawler. Now let’s get the next, our tarutaru Thief said eagerly, running off into a tunnel looking for more crawlers.

I had set out to get four levels that day, but ending up getting five. I was overjoyed, having now become a level 48 Scholar. What wondrous adventures lie ahead of me? I wondered.

There was snow as far as the eye could see, and a chilly wind swept over the glacier as adventurers trudged through the new snow tirelessly. The wind was the least of their worries, as some had brought extra sweaters under their sturdy armors. Everyone were breathing heavy as they traversed the snowy plains, making their way toward the ancient city of Fei’Yin. The sky was dark green, and a radiant aurora shone in the sky. It was quite a spectacular show, and many adventurers were lost in admiration of the scenery.

Teraamhia, a good linkshell friend of mine, sneezed. Her nose was running, and I felt rather sorry for her. I walked over to her and patted her comfortingly on the shoulder. Altana bless you, I said to her while looking through my bag. There we are, I said, pulling out a muffler made of silk. I wrapped it around Teraamhia’s neck, telling her she could borrow it for as long as she wanted. Truth be told, I was quite happy that the silken garment I made just last winter could finally be put to good use. Teraamhia blushed at the unexpected gesture; thanking me for letting borrow it as she had completely forgotten to bring her own.

A wave of yagudo warriors charged toward us as we all gathered up around one of the towers in the west. I had been dedicated to Sparroweye’s party this afternoon, and I worked diligently to keep our party strong and healthy. With good help from Chicora, I was able to heal everyone’s wounds and keep everyone out of harms way. Sparroweye is kind to his fellow adventurers and constantly giving his all, which is more than I can say about the average tank. I’m inclined to question some of his choices of armor though. But although he may have looked like Mr. Lobsterman™, he did an awesome job parrying the yagudos’ attacks with his sword, striking back at every chance. The yagudos didn’t stand a chance against our linkshell as we overwhelmed their forces completely.

Our leaders had decided to dedicate today’s run to farming instead of just going for the win and losing valuable time fighting the Angra. We were all dazzled by the number of relic armors salvaged during the run, and everyone seemed eager to fight on, hoping that they would eventually get a piece of their own.

We slowly but surely made our way toward the entrances of Fei’Yin, defeating the continuous attacks by the kindred forces. The deep crevasses of the glacier made the trip long and tiring, and we had to take a few breaks to catch our breaths. I was eating on some of Chicora’s delicious roasted mackerels with apple sauce, and I wished more people would get to taste Chicora’s wonderful cooking as her cooking is nothing short of spectacular.

The kindred forces showed both skill and cunning in their last stand to defend the ruins of Fei’Yin, but had to retreat in the end. Our linkshell, counting no less than thirty six, showed the monsters no mercy. And just as everyone had finally made their way to the little pond, just short of Fei’Yin, the leaders ordered us to fall back toward the Xarcabard entrance where we would use the remaining time to fight the Hydra forces. I heard some people grumble, as some were tired from all the running. Their dissatisfaction was unwarranted though, as we had still an hour and a half to farm and everyone was eager to see if their shiney~ would drop.

Our trip back to the top of the glacier was long, and the weary adventurers were relieved to learn that we would basically be using the same camp from now on. Some of the people that had been groaning earlier cheered, happy that there wouldn’t be any more running. Sadly, there wouldn’t be too many more relic pieces either, as they were too badly damaged to be salvaged once their former owner fell dead to the ground.

Toward the end of our long journey through the glacier, I saw a familiar piece that I had been hoping would drop. As a Scholar, I had prayed to Altana that she would grant me an Argute Gown. I really didn’t expect to get one, though, as I had only just begun my studies of the ancient texts of Grimoire. I cheered, as the leaders told me it was mine. (O.O;)

Pink flower petals soared through the air, dancing in the stagnant air. Hundreds of petals carried the faint scent of roses—quite the contrast to the unpleasant smell of the barren emptiness, that is Apollyon. The emptiness, although untouched by time and space, was filled with decay and the remains of lost souls, trapped forever in this dreaded realm.

I felt drowsy, and the weight of my eyelids was unbearable. Just a moment wouldn’t hurt, I thought to myself as I fell asleep. The sounds around me disappeared, and I felt calm and happy on the inside. This is purrrfect, I thought to myself, and I could feel all my worries and weariness be swept away.

Wake up, kitten! I shook as I were abruptly woken up. I looked around, confused by the ruckus around me. Riykere, my galkan Red Mage, looked down at me, smiling. Tsk tsk, sleeping on the job he asked me looking all serious. A little annoyed, I poked him for making fun of my misfortunes. I took a few steps back, to make sure I was well outside the mandragoras’ Dream Flower range.

Our party was showing the mandragoras a world of pain, kicking and stabbing them till they couldn’t fight back anymore. As they tumbled over, unconscious, they made a whistling squeal. The people standing next to the mandragora were all muddled by the high pitched noise. Sparroweye, a tall and handsome elvaan, were trying eagerly to attract the mandragoras’ attention, but couldn’t quite concentrate in his bewildered state. I saw him struggle and told him not to worry. I closed my eyes, trying to visualize Sparroweye’s clouded mind. I molded my mana into a sprinkling shower of brilliant lights.

Everyone’s attacks seemed more focused now, so I could get back to tending their wounds. I looked over the remains of each of the monsters, finding a few Ancient Beastcoins. You won’t be needing that anymore, I said to the fallen monsters, closing their eyelids with my hands. I felt kind of bad for them, as I find the mandragoras to be really cute.

As our group defeated the last mandragora, a vortex opened, sending us to the next layer in the vast emptiness. We were now surrounded by birds. Sparroweye walked up to me and patted me on the shoulders, it’s not feeding time yet. I looked at him and shrugged, telling him that I wasn’t really getting my hopes up for any big feasts in here tonight. The stagnant air and the horrid smell felt unpleasant and I was in no mood to eat.

We quickly progressed to the next floor, where Magic Urns and Apollyon Sweepers, a kind of mechanical dolls, were stationed. The magical urns made a humming sound while rotating around. It was hovering about a foot above the floor, charging at us with a sudden sweep. Sparroweye parried the attack, thrusting his sword toward the urn. I could hear a clashing sound as he hit the monster, who continued rotating appearing unaffected by the continuous attacks. Our two Monks, Slugg and Greever, continued to strike it with all their might, kicking and screaming to put the monster out of it’s misery—or so they said at least.

My pouch of ancient beastcoins were growing bigger by each layer we cleared, and as we all cheered as when we finally cleared the last floor and returned victorious to the entrance of Apollyon. I began to count the beastcoins, and asked everyone to roll their dices. My roll wasn’t exactly stellar, but I wasn’t in the bottom three so I were lucky enough to get seven shiney coins I could sell in Whitegate. Having all three earrings I no longer need the coins.

I was also lucky enough to finally get my paws on my first Black Mage upgrade item, after having seen months go by without a single drop:

The night sky was filled with thousands of glittering stars, gleaming in the streaming water. It was quiet, and I could feel an inner tranquility, and happiness over being alive. A carpet of clouds were starting to form under the floating sky palace of Ru’Aun Gardens. I smiled, as I patiently meditated to regain some of my mana. I could hear a few birds flying by nearby, and the hum from the hovering magical urns. Life is good, I thought to myself.

I could hear a clunk in the distance, from a fight perhaps. I decided to investigate the matter further and got up on my feet. The sounds seemed to come from the north east, from one of the platforms. I walked toward the sound, and noticed two people fighting a bird. There goes dinner, I thought to myself, guess I’ll go with some fish and fruits instead.

Greever waved to me, as he dealt the finishing blow to the bird. The bird dropped to the ground, and I actually felt a little sorry for it. Granted, flamingos aren’t really my favorites as their meat are quite tough and tasteless. Now colibris, on the other hand, are a treat! Greever invited me into his little party, and I started whispering a chant. My party started attacking a different flamingo, which gave me time to concentrate. I closed my eyes, and could feel small sparks of lightning appear in the palm of my hand. I continued to focus more of mana into the sparks. I opened my eyes again, directing my attention on the bird. I pointed my hand toward the bird, spread my fingers, releasing a burst of thunder bolt toward the bird.

We continued to fight the birds till early morning. The sky was getting brighter, and was now light blue. The sun appeared on the horizon, and I could hear adventurers in awe by the beautiful morning sun. It’s a sight that brings joy to my heart, as I can celebrate the beginning of a new and eventful day—hopefully with lots and lots of delicious fishies!

Our party members were starting to grow in numbers, and we were getting increasingly closer to being able to start the linkshell event. We were now fighting dolls, mighty machines set to guard these ancient grounds. It’s going to blow, someone suddenly screamed. The doll we were fighting exploded, making a thundering sound reverb through the garden. The chirping birds flew away, scared by the loud noise.

Two of our party members got knocked out by the explosion, and although I saw it coming, there was little I could do. I had just saved my fellow black mage from one of the monsters, so my Stun was nowhere near being ready. Our leader got quiet for a moment, and I hoped that a nearby party would help raise our fallen comrades. Sadly, there was no response.

I was asked to return to sky as a White Mage. All I could feel was sorrow as I put my Cleric’s Briault on and went back.

Inspired by Xandora, I thought I’d make this my Hug a Newbie Day™ as well.

Prepare yourself for the height of teleportation excellence, Kaduru-Haiduru said as he closed his eyes, mumbling some ancient words I couldn’t recognize. Suddenly, a burst of black light engulfed me, and it almost felt as if I were about to be ripped apart. Welcome home to the Federation of Windurst, a womanly tarutaru voice said as I came to again. Did you have a pleasant trip? she asked curiously. I opened my eyes, and shook. I will never get used to this, I thought to myself. Rottata was standing in front of me, a tarutaru overseeing the swift deployment of troops in the campaign areas. I meowed in dismay as I got back on my feet, dusting off some sand I had gotten on my clothes as I landed.

It was a pleasant sunny day, and I could hear the birds warbling. I could hear the splash from a landing airship, and birds flying away in fear. The air was moist, a bit salty, but still refreshing. I’ve always liked the ocean, ever since I moved from Lemith and started as an adventurer here in Windurst. My house has a beautiful view of the sea, and I can hear seagulls squawking as the fishing boats arrive at the Fishmonger Landing plaza each morning.

I walked over to the plaza, stopping by a friendly tarutaru selling the latest issue of Magic Paradise Weekly. I carefully read through it, hoping to find some interesting stories. A friend of mine, Xandora, had written an excellent piece, and I felt really inspired by her call to hug a newbie today. What an exciting idea, I thought to myself, and decided that I would head over to the western parts of Sarutabaruta and give a helping paw to a fellow adventurer.

Just outside the gate I found a tarutaru eagerly fighting a mandragora. The little tarutaru was wearing a traditional tarutaru kaftan and cried out as he struck the mandragora. I cheered at the little tarutaru, healing his wounds. The mandragora fought back well, but were no match for the tarutaru.

I wrapped the tarutaru in a kitty~huggie, good luck my friend! May the goddess be with you on your journey. The new adventurer blushed, thank you cat. I bowed to him, before running along, hoping to find another friendly face. Just showing a new adventurer that people actually cares about them made me feel a lot better. I remember people helping me when I started out, and this was my chance to repay the community. The cures and the protective spells wasn’t much, but I hoped that just stopping by and wishing them luck would put a smile on their face.
